I’m Naveed, the software engineer behind Mb2KbSizer. I work on web and mobile applications and like building practical solutions that save people time, reduce confusion and make technology easier to use. I designed, built and maintain this site, and I research and write its guides.

Mb2KbSizer is a free browser-based tool for reducing an image or PDF to a size you choose, such as 20 kB, 50 kB or 100 kB. It does the processing on your device instead of sending personal files to an unknown server.

The problem I wanted to solve

The problem sounds simple until an important form refuses a file. A phone may save a clear photograph at 3 or 5 MB, but an examination, recruitment or admission portal may ask for a JPG inside a narrow kB range. The photograph, signature and supporting PDF can each have different limits. The rejection message usually says only that the file is too large or invalid; it rarely explains what quality, dimensions or format will work.

I found the same practical gap while reviewing official upload instructions and the questions people search for:

  • a portal specifies an exact maximum, or both a minimum and maximum, while a normal compressor offers only a percentage or an unexplained quality slider;
  • users repeatedly compress, download and retry because they cannot see the result in bytes before submission;
  • screenshots and messaging apps can reduce a file unpredictably, blur a signature or make document text difficult to read;
  • different tools are needed for a photograph, a signature and a PDF, even though they belong to the same application;
  • uploading identity photos, certificates or signed forms to an unfamiliar compression server creates an avoidable privacy concern.

Our guide to current government-form requirements shows why one generic setting cannot solve every case: official instructions use different size bands, formats and dimensions for different fields and recruitment cycles. The active portal is always the final authority, but the repeated difficulty is clear—people need a controlled way to meet the number shown on the form.

That is why I built Mb2KbSizer around a target size rather than a vague “compress more” button. You enter the limit the destination gives you, the tool measures each result, and it aims to return the best version at or just below that target. If the request is unrealistic for the file, it reports that honestly instead of pretending the target was reached.

Where the tools are useful

Mb2KbSizer can help with:

  • photographs and signatures for examination, recruitment, scholarship and admission forms;
  • passport-style portraits for a service that publishes its own file-size and dimension rules;
  • scanned certificates, declarations, mark sheets and other PDF attachments;
  • smaller email attachments when a mailbox or recipient has a size limit;
  • website, blog and product images that need faster loading;
  • batches of gallery or catalogue images that need a consistent maximum size.

The image compressor handles individual photographs and graphics, the PDF compressor handles documents, and the bulk image compressor can process up to 200 images together. Mb2KbSizer does not submit a form for you and cannot guarantee that a portal will accept a file whose other requirements—such as dimensions, colour, filename or format—are wrong.

How exact-size compression works

Everything runs inside your browser. For images, code in a background worker decodes the file, re-encodes it, measures the byte count and searches for the best quality that fits. If quality alone would damage the image too much, the tool reduces pixel dimensions in controlled steps and searches again. The result shows the original and compressed sizes, dimensions and quality so you can inspect it before downloading.

PDFs are also processed locally. Depending on the document and the mode you choose, the tool either preserves the document structure where possible or re-renders pages for a smaller result. It tells you when text may no longer remain selectable. Images are capped at 60 MB per file and PDFs at 100 MB so a browser tab does not consume unlimited device memory.

Browser re-encoding normally removes camera metadata such as GPS coordinates because the new image is created from its pixels rather than copied byte-for-byte. The HTML canvas standard describes this export behaviour.

My editorial approach

File-size limits are useful only when the source and date are clear. For articles about portals and official forms, I follow these rules:

  • Use primary sources. I check the portal, official instructions or notification instead of copying a number from another compressor website.
  • Name the cycle and review date. Requirements can change, so a guide is a researched reference—not a substitute for the instructions inside the active form.
  • Correct mistakes openly. If you send a correction through the contact page, I verify it against the primary source and update the page and its review date.
  • Do not invent trust signals. I do not publish made-up user counts, ratings, testimonials or research claims.

Privacy and independence

There is no Mb2KbSizer account and no database of compressed files. Images, PDFs and bulk ZIP files are created in your browser; I cannot see, recover or sell them. The only personal information the site receives is what you deliberately send through the contact form. The Privacy Policy explains contact email, hosting logs and any analytics or advertising services in detail.

Mb2KbSizer is an independent project. It is not connected with or endorsed by any government department, examination body, recruitment board, university, bank, employer, passport service or visa authority mentioned in a guide.

How the project is funded

The tools have no paid tier, file-count fee or watermark. The intended funding model is Google AdSense so the service can remain free. Advertising code and ad units are loaded only after the relevant publisher account and site configuration are enabled; any ads must stay clearly labelled and separate from upload, compress and download controls.

Google Analytics 4 can be enabled to measure aggregate page usage and improve the site, but it never receives the contents of a file. Google services are controlled by the consent and privacy settings described in the Privacy Policy.

Contact Naveed

If a file will not compress, a portal requirement has changed, or you have an idea for a useful preset, use the contact form or email mb2kbsizer@gmail.com. I read the messages and use them to decide what should be fixed, clarified or built next.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who built and runs Mb2KbSizer?

Mb2KbSizer is built and maintained by Naveed, a software engineer who works on web and mobile applications. I also research, write and update the practical guides published on the site.

Why did Naveed create an exact-size compressor?

Online forms often demand a narrow file-size range, while phone cameras create multi-megabyte files and ordinary compressors expose only a vague quality slider. I built Mb2KbSizer to let people enter the actual kB limit and get a file that fits without repeated guessing.

What can I use Mb2KbSizer for?

You can prepare photographs, signatures, scanned certificates and PDFs for recruitment, examination and admission portals; reduce attachments for email; optimise website images; or compress many product and gallery images together.

Do images and PDFs leave my device?

No. Compression runs locally inside your browser tab. Mb2KbSizer does not upload, store or inspect the files you process, and the working data is discarded when the page is closed.

Is Mb2KbSizer free and independent?

Yes. The tools require no account, paid plan or watermark. Mb2KbSizer is an independent project and is not affiliated with any examination board, government portal, university, employer or passport authority.

Ready to compress your file?

Pick a target size, drop in your image or PDF, and download the result in seconds. Nothing leaves your device.
