Quick sizes

How it works: we first try a lossless clean-up that keeps your text selectable. If the PDF is still too big, each page is re-saved as a sharp image inside a new PDF.

Step by step

How to compress PDF to 200kB?

Works on phones, tablets and computers — no account needed.

  1. 1

    Upload the PDF

Drop your PDF into the box above or click to browse. Scanned documents, forms, certificates and multi-page reports all work. The file stays on your device.

  2. 2

    Confirm the target size

The target is pre-set to 200 kB here. You can change the number, switch the unit to MB or a percentage, and tick black & white for scanned pages that do not need colour.

  3. 3

    Compress and download

We try a lossless clean-up first and only re-render pages when the file is still too big. Compare the first page before and after, then press Download.

Where this size shows up

Where a 200 kB PDF is typically required

Two hundred kilobytes gives a document enough room to stay comfortable without approaching the 300 kB ceilings used by many application portals. It is a strong default for a dense marksheet, a certificate carrying a photograph and seal, a passport page, or a signed form of two to four pages. In the 50–300 kB ranges published for several 2026 NTA examinations, a result just under 200 kB sits well away from both rejection points.

The same target works for job material that must travel easily: a two-page resume, cover letter, portfolio summary, experience certificate or combined ID sheet. Born-digital files often reach 200 kB through a lossless re-save, preserving searchable text and links. Scanned files are rendered at up to 150 dpi and rebuilt from compressed page images, so the tool can reduce multi-megabyte phone captures while showing the first page before and after.

A shared budget still has limits. Four scanned pages receive roughly 50 kB each and generally remain clear in grayscale; ten pages receive only 20 kB each and are better suited to a 350 kB target or a split upload. If the current form caps files at 100 or 150 kB, choose that exact preset — the larger result will not pass simply because it looks better.

  • Dense academic marksheet

A full page of small table cells, grades and serial numbers retains more edge detail at 200 kB than on the smallest presets.

  • Two- to four-page application form

Short scanned forms get roughly 50–100 kB per page, enough for labels, ticks, handwriting and signatures in black & white.

  • Resume and cover letter

A clean digital export usually remains searchable and can carry modest graphics or a profile photo without crossing the target.

  • Passport and visa documents

A bio page or supporting letter fits comfortably, though the Indian e-Visa portal still requires each named item in its own PDF.

  • Certificates for exam applications

The target is within the 50–300 kB certificate range used in current NTA bulletins and leaves room for small print.

  • Signed business or HR paperwork

A compact file is easy to email, archive and open on a phone while retaining readable signatures and filled fields.

Pro tips

Tips to reach 200 kB without losing readability

  • Match page count to the budget

At 200 kB, two pages receive about 100 kB each, four receive 50 kB and ten receive 20 kB. Short forms look excellent; long camera-scanned bundles need grayscale, fewer pages or a higher target to protect small print.

  • Prefer the original digital document

Export a resume, letter or completed form straight to PDF whenever possible. Text and vector lines take fewer bytes than a photograph of the same page, and a lossless result stays searchable, selectable and sharper at every zoom level.

  • Clean the source before compression

Straighten the page, crop out the table and remove blank back pages. Shadows and camera noise are treated as image detail, so a clean scan reaches 200 kB at a higher quality than a crooked phone photo of the same document.

  • Use colour only where it adds information

A portrait, chart or coloured annotation may justify colour. Plain certificates, declarations and forms usually look clearer in black & white because the encoder can devote the same bytes to letter edges instead of paper tint.

  • Leave headroom below a 300 kB cap

Choosing 200 kB for a 300 kB maximum avoids last-byte disputes and allows the portal to read the file without coming close to its limit. Do not target 200 when the notice sets a smaller maximum; use the stated value instead.

Quality check

What to expect at 200 kB

A detailed single page at 200 kB normally keeps the full 150 dpi rendering and a high JPEG quality. Fine marksheet rows, signatures and a small face remain clear on a laptop and at modest zoom. If the source is a digital PDF, the lossless route may reduce object overhead without rasterising anything, leaving fonts and links intact.

Four grayscale pages share about 50 kB each and usually remain easy to read when captured flat. Four colour phone photos need more work: the tool can lower JPEG quality and then resolution across successive passes, so textured seals and photographs soften first. A ten-page scanned report is possible only with a severe per-page budget; for that case, choose 350 kB, split the document or export it from the source application instead.

Good to know

Frequently Asked Questions

How many PDF pages can stay clear at 200 kB?

One to four scanned pages are the practical range, depending on colour and source quality. A born-digital text document can contain many more pages because characters and fonts compress far more efficiently than page photographs.

Is 200 kB accepted by NTA application forms?

It fits the 50–300 kB PDF ranges in the cited 2026 JEE Main, NEET UG and CUET UG bulletins. Requirements change between cycles and fields, so verify the active notice before submitting.

Will links and selectable text survive compression?

They survive when the lossless re-save is enough. If the target requires page rendering, the visible page becomes a JPEG image and links, selectable text and form controls are flattened. The result card states the method used.

Why is black & white clearer than colour at this size?

Colour requires the encoder to describe additional channels and lighting variations. Grayscale removes that information, letting the same 200 kB preserve sharper character edges, handwriting and line art.

Can the tool compress a password-protected document?

Not while it is locked. Open the PDF with its password and save an unprotected copy from the original application, then compress that copy locally and keep the protected source as your archive.

What formats does Mb2KbSizer support?

This tool accepts PDF files only, up to 100 MB and with any number of pages. It cannot open a password-protected PDF; remove the password in the program that created it, then try again. Word, Excel or image files need converting to PDF first, which most phones and computers can do through Print to PDF or Save as PDF. The output is always a standard PDF with the original page sizes. If you want to shrink photos rather than documents, use the [image compressor](/), which handles JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF and HEIC where the browser can decode it.

Is it safe to upload my PDFs to Mb2KbSizer?

Your PDF is never sent anywhere, so there is no upload to worry about. The browser opens the file locally, and both compression methods run on your own processor: the lossless pass re-saves the document with compressed streams, and the re-render pass draws each page and packs it into a fresh PDF, all in memory on your device. Our servers only deliver the page itself. This matters for the kind of documents people compress: ID scans, bank statements, offer letters, medical reports. They remain as private after compression as they were before you opened the tool.

Do you store my PDFs?

We cannot store what we never receive. Because the whole process happens in your browser, no copy of your document, its pages or its text is written to our servers, and there is no account history tying files to you. The compressed PDF lands in your Downloads folder and nowhere else. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs for page requests, which record things like IP address and browser type but never file contents. We also run no database. For a plain-language description of what little data the site does handle, see our privacy policy.

What is Mb2KbSizer and what does it do?

Mb2KbSizer shrinks images and PDF documents to a size you choose, free of charge, without leaving your browser. Give the PDF compressor a file of up to 100 MB, enter a target in kB, MB or as a percentage of the original, and it works to bring the document under that figure. Typical jobs include getting a scanned marksheet below a portal's cap, squeezing a multi-page application form into an email, or lightening a report before sharing it. The same site offers an [image compressor](/) and a bulk image compressor, both built on the same no-upload approach.

Is Mb2KbSizer free to use?

It is, with no catches. You will not meet a paywall after the first file, a cap on pages, a size restriction beyond the 100 MB input limit, or a stamp on the output. We do not ask for an email address or an account. Ads on the page cover our hosting bill, and since your device does the processing, we have no per-file costs to pass on. Whether you compress one certificate or every document for a job application, the price is the same: nothing. There is no paid plan waiting behind the free one.

Do I need to install any app to use Mb2KbSizer?

There is nothing to install. The PDF compressor is a normal web page that loads its compression code (Mozilla's pdf.js and pdf-lib) into the browser and runs it there. Any current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari or Samsung Internet will do, on Android, iPhone, Windows, macOS or Linux. You can pin the page to your home screen through your browser's Add to Home Screen option if you like a one-tap icon, but it still fetches the page over the internet each time, so it is not an offline app. We publish nothing in any app store, and no software needs updating.

How do I compress a PDF using Mb2KbSizer?

Start by dropping your PDF into the upload box or tapping browse to select it; the tool opens the file on your device. Next, check the Target Size field. On a preset page the number is already filled in, but you can change it and switch the unit between kB, MB and %. Tick black & white if the file is a scan and you want extra savings. Then press the compress button. The result panel shows the first page before and after, the new size, the percentage saved, the page count and which method was used. Press Download to save the file.

Have a photo to shrink too?

Our image compressor lands JPG, PNG and WebP files at an exact kB size — handy when the same form needs a photo and a PDF.
